She Walked Through the Valley of the Shadow of Death
C. H. Laws
Yesterday I listened a wonderful testimony given by a lady. The following is her testimony.
Thanks to the Lord, who has given me life to testify for His love and glory. The following is my testimony:
July 1st, 2001 was Canada's National Day. That day my friends and I attended the Worship Service in the morning. In the afternoon they wanted to bring me to the beach for a picnic. Because on the next day, July 2nd, my son and I would go to Vancouver and then return to Taiwan alone. Therefore, my friends wanted to give us a dinner treat.
Our car was hitting to the HWY 401 and just at a moment an accident occurred. A big truck suddenly changed lane, and our car could not avoid hitting the rear of the truck.
I was brought to the hospital. Doctor sutured my wounds on my face and forehead with many stitches in the Emergency Department. Afterwards I was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) immediately. Two days later, I was transferred to the Surgical Ward. Many friends knew that I was badly injured and then they rushed to see me at the hospital. On the third and fourth day, my sister, husband and daughter came from Vancouver and Taiwan to see me.
Although I am still conscious, however I got four fractured ribs on my left side, and my face was swollen, deformed and distorted which frightened all of them and gave them much worry. On the eleventh day doctor performed neurological and plastic operations on me. I was privilege to have the surgery done by the famous Neurologists & Plastic Surgeons of the Sunnybrook Hospital. They performed open reduction and internal fixation for my fractured facial bones (Temporomaxillary, nasal and mandibular bones, etc.), reduction of my dislocated temporomandibular joints and open my skull (Craniotomy) to remove blood clots as well. They used stainless metal plates. screws and wires for internal fixation. Now more than thirty pieces of stainless metal plates and over seventy stainless steel screws and wires retained in my face. The surgery took eleven hours and twenty minutes to finish. Surgery was also done on my eyes because of protrusion of my right eye with double vision (Diplopia).
I was just like the situation of Psalm 23 in the Bible, which says, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.” This is really wonderful. On the day of operation, at seven o’clock as I was sent into the Operation Theatre, my sister was praying for me, I was not afraid at all, “for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. ”
was discharged on July 19, 2001 from the hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. James Lin accepted me to their home for recuperation and
recovery. Until August 23,
2001, there was mush improvement of my condition and my strength increased a
lot. Thank God for His care that
through such a serious car accident, my eyesight is still good.
My hands are still movable. I
still can walk with my legs. My
spine is intact; otherwise I would be paralyzed and may be handicapped.
Now, I want to thank Pastor and Mrs. John Lee and the elders, deacons, deaconesses and church members of the Toronto Chinese Seventh-day Adventist Church. They kept on praying for me and visiting me at the hospital without ceasing. I am thankful to Mr. James Lin’s family for accepting me to recuperate in their home. Other then this I also want to thank all the Taiwanese friends such as Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Chang, Mr. and Mrs. Hsia, Angela Lin, Carol Seto and her sister, Jerry Liu and Kay Liu, etc.. All of them visited me several times and prayed for me. I am very impressed and thankful. At last and most important, I want to thank my loving Heavenly Father for caring and hearing our prayers.
I would like to share with you the following scriptures of our Lord’s promises.
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Psalms 23:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22
Commit your way to the LORD: trust in him and he will do this: (Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.) Psalms 37:5
